Workplace stress increases the risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke, according to new research in the TUC-backed "Hazards" magazine. Long-term stress is worse for the heart than putting on 40lbs or ageing 30 years because workers deal with stress by smoking, drinking and "slobbing out". Action to reduce stress can be very cost-effective.
The costs of stress to your organisation may show up as high staff turnover, an increase in sickness absence, reduced work performance, poor timekeeping and more customer complaints. Stress in one person can also lead to stress in staff who have to cover for their colleague. |

Also, employers who don’t take stress seriously may leave themselves open to compensation claims from employees who have suffered ill health from work-related stress. Fortunately, reducing stress need not cost you a lot of money.
At ‘Yoga at Work’ we pride ourselves on providing a friendly and professional corporate yoga service in helping individuals and organisations reach their full potential
As an employer, is work based stress my concern?

Talking in Straight Lines - boost your team's performance back to top |
|
description Coping and implementing change is a constant part of our working lives. Many of our teams are made up of people who have proven themselves in their present roles. To get to a position where senior staff can let go of their present roles and see the bigger picture can be difficult. What can arise is organisational incoherence, which is state resulting from accumulated internal noise, turmoil, pressure, and conflict among the individuals that make up your team. The common issues that arise can be distorted perception, high levels of emotional reactivity, and decreased efficiency, cooperation and productivity, over defensive behaviour, lack of involvement, people holding back or being over cautious when decisions are needed.
The session draws upon Phil's experience in facilitating change and helping teams connect at a personal level, be more open, honest, pioneering and able to deal with change. The course gives staff a chance to develop and see a world without their respective hats on gives the organisation a stronger base to move forward. |
